I absolutely adore a beautiful summer family session in Calgary. I first began chatting with Chelsie about a year prior to me shooting her session (which was shot last summer) and discovered she’s an incredibly talented photographer (Chelsie Rae Photography)! We met at one of my favorite locations, Confederation Park where I had the pleasure of capturing her two adorable boys, L and T.
The beauty of family sessions is that we can shoot them later in the evening (after mom and dad are done work) and before the kids’ bed time. As I’ve mentioned in prior blog posts, I do try to avoid mid-day sessions. The lighting can be incredibly harsh and in the summer time, the way the lighting hits the grass can cause it to turn a neon green. It can also cause a green cast on faces and lighter coloured clothing.
I also always advise clients that bribery is best when it comes to family sessions. Most parents will tell their little ones that they’ll get ice cream after their session. Another great idea is to bring M&M’s with you so they can have a little treat when they begin to feel “done”.
I always suggest bringing bug spray and sunscreen with my families as well. Typically, if we’re in the taller grass we run the risk of mosquitoes and ticks. These can both lead to red welts (and Lyme disease with ticks).
It’s been such a blast shooting family sessions again and I can’t wait to capture more of them along with lifestyle and maternity sessions in the future!
