Working with Kyle and Kaitlyn for their Fairmont Banff Springs wedding was an absolute dream.  We started their beautiful day off at Kaitlyn’s hotel room and then followed by their beautiful (and windy ceremony).  The Fairmont has numerous amazing locations, from the terrace where you can host your ceremony, to the beautiful banquet rooms and hallways – all of which are incredibly photogenic and perfect for pictures!  As with every wedding this year, we had to follow Covid protocols.  Guests had to wear masks when they weren’t seated and the cocktail hour was limited and there was no dancing.  With all that said, Kaitlyn and Kyle were able to have their first dance and cut the cake!  Their day was perfect (and one to remember).  It’s not every year you get married during the pandemic!  Here’s more from them:

What is the most memorable moment from your wedding?

Probably the first dance. We weren’t sure if we would be able to have a first dance when we started planning our wedding due to COVID restrictions, so we really appreciated having one. We were all smiles during the dance. Kyle chose “Stand by Me” by Ben E. King. Mr. King was married for over 50 years, which added meaning to the song choice!

If you could give one piece of advice to couples planning their wedding, what would it be?

Have Steph capture your wedding moments! She’s worth her weight in gold! But also, try not to get too caught up in the details of the day. You are marrying someone that you love, and no matter what, the day will be perfect.

What was your most favourite wedding detail, and why?

The wedding cake meant a lot to us. Kaitlyn’s Mum and Auntie made it together. The base tier of our cake was a fruitcake recipe that has been passed down for generations. For the top tiers we chose our personal favourite – vanilla and lemon curd. We even had Nana’s vintage cake knife to cut the cake!

What was your experience planning a wedding amidst the pandemic?

It was surprisingly positive! We planned our wedding in under three months during a global pandemic, and we are so happy that we did. When we started planning, we had to figure out what was most important to us. For us, it was that our families were there to celebrate with us, and that we married each other. Everything else is just a bonus. Of course, there were lots of unknowns along the way. For example, we worried that with COVID restrictions Nana would not be able to attend (happy ending – she was able to make it!). We were impressed with how well our vendors and guests handled changing restrictions. Everyone was very respectful of safety measures, which allowed us to enjoy the day and know that our friends, family, and vendors were safe.
